TRANSVIDERA – Association for the Support and Networking of Self-Help in Medicine (registered association)
TRANSVIDERA e.V. supports the dissemination of medical knowledge about genetic eye diseases by translating information materials, voluntarily created by self-help groups and similar organizations, into Turkish. These translations make specialized medical knowledge accessible to Turkish-speaking affected individuals and their relatives. Furthermore, they serve as a guide for medical professionals in both Germany and Turkey.
The long-standing collaboration at the Institute for Translation and Interpreting at Mersin University/Turkey paved the way for the idea of establishing a portal beyond the university setting, where translators can volunteer their services. The association sees itself as a bridge between two cultures and languages. The volunteers of the association have repeatedly observed that Turkish-speaking individuals are excluded from accessing knowledge. This situation is intended to be changed long-term for the field of "Medical Information Brochures."
The association aims to make knowledge about various diseases and living with them discoverable and readable in Turkish. Through its voluntary translations, it also seeks to ensure that the structures and networks of self-help become transparent in Turkish.
gençer & coll. financially support this social project. In addition, translator and interpreter Oğuzhan Acıcı is particularly active as the 2nd chairman of the association, carrying out a variety of projects within the scope of the association's work. For example, in March 2018, a congress took place at Mersin University/Turkey, which Mr. Acıcı attended together with law firm founder Cüneyt Gençer. Mr. Acıcı gave a presentation on translation work for the cross-border exchange of medical texts and specialized information.
