International Focus
The key to success in a globalized world.
- How do cultural differences manifest themselves?
Culturally influenced differences are noticeable in several aspects of communication between people from different countries. Externally, these differences are expressed in communication behavior – for example, in body language. However, fundamental differences also concern values and attitudes, for instance, towards work, time, dealing with authorities, etc.
- Understanding requires more than words
Japanese businesspeople usually express their dissatisfaction with poor performance very cautiously; this is often barely recognizable to Germans, who tend to view confrontation with objective and constructive criticism positively. A cooling of business relations will not be foreseeable for Germans if they do not anticipate such consequences after such a reserved reaction.
If a Spanish business partner takes too long to make a decision, an American might conclude that they are no longer interested in collaborating. This conclusion can be explained by the high value placed on time in American culture. However, this would be incorrect, as Spaniards do not perceive time as being as scarce as Americans do.
- Awareness of cultural differences as a basis for action
The correct handling of differences between cultures is called "intercultural competence." Tolerance, appreciation, empathy, and respect gain central importance here. The goal of all efforts towards intercultural competence in business is to engage with potential business partners in their "language" and thus successfully shape business relationships.
Companies looking to tap into the growing Turkish market will find a powerful partner in the law firm gençer & coll. Our interdisciplinary team of lawyers, tax advisors, interpreters, and translators provides comprehensive support for the realization of your projects.
