Language skills are often acquired through stays abroad (especially in Germany and the USA). In Istanbul alone, there are reportedly over one million German speakers.

German and English Language Skills in Turkey.

a) English

legal language due to the adoption of law books from German-speaking regions after the founding of the Republic in 1923, particularly the Civil Code (Switzerland) and excerpts from the Commercial Code (Germany).
